CME Mission Statement
Purpose
The mission of the SCAN Health Plan® Continuing Medical Education / Performance Improvement Education (CME/PIE) Program is to provide high-quality, evidence-based activities designed to narrow the professional practice gaps of providers caring for geriatric patients.
Content
CME/PIE activities focus on current issues in geriatric medical practice and health care delivery, care of chronic illness, the introduction of new skills, practices and technologies, and the dissemination of new research findings. The goal is to improve the quality of health care delivered to older people in the SCAN Health Plan® contracted network and in the community.
Target Audience
SCAN Health Plan CME/PIE providers include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers within the SCAN Health Plan network and in the community throughout California and adjacent states, who want to improve their knowledge, competency and performance in the care of older adults .
Type of Activities
SCAN Health Plan CME/PIE uses multiple types of formats and modalities to accomplish its goals, matching format and method to session objectives. Types of activities include: live conferences, medical-group focused seminars, written materials and web-based activities. The focus for 2010-2011 is on web-based interactive modules that facilitate greater opportunity for development of physician learning and behavior change.
Effectiveness
The SCAN CME/PIE program focuses on performance improvement education. The effectiveness of our primary activity, web-based interactive modules, will be evaluated by analyzing self-reported and administrative data from providers, with the goal of quantifying changes in their competencies and performance.
The overall CME/PIE program will be evaluated in terms of meeting its goals of reaching physicians through the evaluation of the website activities, alignment with SCAN Health Plan ® Quality Improvement activities and medical group performance initiatives.
